Teen Halloween Games

If you’re throwing a Halloween party for your teenage kids and their friends, it can be hard to know what activities to arrange for them.  Teens won’t want to play childish games that they enjoyed when they were younger, and some grownup party games (such as those that involve drinking) won’t be appropriate either.  The games listed here hopefully fall midway between childrens and adults games, and should provide enough entertainment even for today’s teens who are used to playing computer games!

Build a Zombie

This is a good team game that helps break the ice at a party as the kids will have to work together.  Before the party, have a clearout of your closet and make a pile of old clothes – shirts, pants, hats etc.  Or you could ask you guests to bring a few items themselves.  The object of the game is for each team to use the old clothes to build a zombie (like a scarecrow) within a set time limit (20 or 30 minutes).  You should provide them with straw or old newspapers to use as stuffing, along with pumpkins or balloons for the heads.

Once the time limit is up, you can judge the zombies and award prizes to the teams who built the scariest, the funniest and the most unique zombie.

The Balloon Game

To play this game, divide your teens up into teams of 4 or 5 and give each player a balloon to blow up.  Mark out a start and finish line.  One player from each team then has to put their balloon between their knees and try to get to the finish line as quick as they can.  At the finish line they have to burst their balloon – any way they like – and then run back to the start line, where the second player will have a go with their balloon and so on – like a relay race.  The winner is the first team to complete the task.

Bowling

This game is best played outside or in a large room.  Fill 10 soda bottles with a cup of water and secure the lids in place.  Make sure the bottles are all the same size and shape.  These will be your bowling pins, so line them up about 20 ft away.  Then use a smallish pumpkin as a bowling ball and play as you would regular bowling.  Each player has a go to try and knock down as many bottles as they can.  It’s best to set a limit on the number of goes and keep a tally of the scores.  The person with the highest score wins.

Pictionary

Play your own version of the classic board game.  Write Halloween related words on scraps of paper, one word on each slip of paper eg. witch, ghost, treat, vampire etc.  The more words you can think of the longer the game!  Put all the words in a container – a witch’s hat would be ideal.  Divide the group into 2 teams and put up a chalkboard.  Each player in turn has a go at drawing the word on the paper and their team members have to guess what the word is.  Use a timer and give players a minute per go.  If the team guesses correctly, the drawer can take another piece of paper and attempt to draw that word and so on until their minute is up.  Play then passes to the next team.  Carry on until each player has had a turn at drawing and make sure you keep a tally of the points.  The team with the most points wins.
