Halloween Desserts
Here are some tasty recipes that you can serve up for dessert at your Halloween Party.
Bloody Fingers
Ingredients
1 cup of butter
1 cup of sugar
1 large egg
2 2/3 cups of flour
1 teaspoon of baking powder
3/4 cup of whole, blanched almonds
Jar of red jam (strawberry or raspberry)
Method
Cream the sugar and butter in a bowl until light and fluffy. Beat the egg and add it to the mixture. Then fold in the flour and baking powder until you have a smooth, doughy consistency. Cover the bowl with a plate or clingfilm and leave the dough to chill in the fridge for half an hour.
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Farenheit and grease a large baking sheet. Make finger shapes from your dough to fill the baking sheet – this recipe makes a large amount of fingers, so you may need to leave some of the dough in the fridge and make a second batch later. Use roughly a heaped teaspoon of dough for each finger. Use the jam to stick an almond to each cookie to look like a finger nail, and score lines for the knuckles.
Place your fingers on the baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Allow them to cool on a wire rack. You can add more jam if you like to make it look like the fingers are covered in blood!
Pumpkin Pie
This is a traditional favorite with both adults and kids, and it’s a great way to use up all the insides you’ve scooped out of your pumpkins!
Ingredients
Ready made 9in sweet crust pastry case
2 eggs and 1 egg yolk
3 oz of sugar (preferrably brown)
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 teaspon each of nutmeg, allspice, ground cloves and ginger
10 fll oz of double cream
Method
Set your oven to 350 degrees Farenheit. Get your pastry case ready in a tin.
Then make the filling. Firstly, steam the pumpkin until soft. Whisk the eggs and the yolk and put to one side. Heat the cream, sugar and spices in a saucepan to a simmer, but don’t boil. Then whisk in the eggs and the pumpkin puree.
Pour the filling into the pastry case and bake for 35-40 minutes. When it’s done, leave the pie in the tin to cool on a wire rack. This dessert is best served chilled, so you can prepare it in advance of your party and leave it in the fridge, covered with foil. This pie is delicious served with a dollop of vanilla icecream.
