Halloween Crafts for Preschoolers
Even kids of preschool age can get involved in making crafts at Halloween. They will need more supervision and help than older children, but by keeping things simple they can have a lot of fun making their own things. Here are a few ideas for Halloween themed crafts to make with preschoolers:
Lunch Bag Puppets
Simple hand puppets can be made from small paper lunch bags. Turn the bag upside down and fold the bottom over to make a square head. You can then fold over the corners if you want, to make a more pointed face (depending on what you want to make). Kids can then stick on things to make faces. For instance, you could cut shapes from construction paper that could be used for cat ears and paws, or a witch’s hat. Pipe cleaners can be used for cats whiskers. An adult will need to be there to do the cutting, but preschoolers can glue things on their own with a little guidance.
Paper snake
This is made from colored construction paper. You will need to draw a spiral on the paper (imagine a snake curled up in a circle, with its head in the middle of the spiral, and tail on the outside). You can cut this out for your preschooler and then let them decorate their snake how they want. You could draw on a face, or stick something on there and then stick things on to decorate the snake’s body. Once your child has finished, attach some string to the snake’s head and hang it up as part of your Halloween decorations.
Cardboard Creatures
Out of some colored card, cut some Halloween themed shapes, such as bats, pumpkins or spiders. You could either use colored card or let your child color in white card. Once you’ve cut out the shapes, you can let the kids decorate them as they wish by sticking things on, such as scrunched up tissue paper or whatever they can find. You can then display these on your wall or hang them from the ceiling.
