Homemade Halloween Masks
Tired of spending your entire paycheck on Halloween costumes for yourself and your children every October? You’re not alone. Each year, parents spend a small fortune on costume materials that will only be worn one day out of the year. If you’ve had to take out a second mortgage to afford Halloween, there is help around the bend. Making a homemade costume or mask is an idea that few people actually follow through with, which is a real shame. The fact is, a homemade Halloween will save you more money than you could imagine. Here are seven ideas for homemade Halloween Masks:
1. Mummy
Dressing up as a mummy has always been a great costume idea for kids, and is a very easy mask to design. All you really need is a paper bag and some bandages. By wrapping the bag in bandages and poking out holes for eyes, nose and mouth, you can create what turns out to be almost like a paper-mache kind of mask. The kids will love this one.
2. Ghost
The ghost is another very popular costume idea, and a ghost mask is very easy to make. Cutting holes in a stark white pillow case and cutting the pillow case down until it is approximately 8 inches long should yield you a perfect ghost mask. For more effect, you can draw some scary designs on the pillow case using a wide variety of patterns or printable templates.
3. Dinosaur
Every kid wants to be a dinosaur at some point in their lives. On Halloween, it’s easy to make it happen. Just draw a picture of a dinosaur’s face on a face-sized piece of cardboard and cut out holes for the eyes, nose and mouth. Attach a tail for some extra effect.
4. Vampire
Vampires are the newest trend these days, and should be a very popular fancy dress idea for Halloween this year. Make paper mache pointy ears and purchase some fake vampire teeth. Then, make a cardboard mask with a rubber band on the back and be sure you circle the eye parts with red marker to make the eyes look more sinister.
5. Burglar
The burglar mask is great for adults who plan on going to a party. All you need to do is take an old ski mask and cut holes for the nose, mouth and eyes. To turn heads, try wearing the burglar mask with a fancy dress!
6. Dentist
Another popular adult mask, the dentist is extremely easy to pull off. Just get your hands on a surgical face mask and make a fake cap out of white paper. Spray some fake blood on the mask, and all of a sudden you’re a spooky dentist.
7. Cowboy
A cowboy from the wild west is another great costume that can work for both kids and adults. Grab an old cowboy hat and paint the face with dark eyeliner. There’s no better costume for the cowboy in training!
Making homemade masks for Halloween is an excellent, money-saving idea for any family to employ.
