Group Halloween Costumes
If you’re attending a Halloween party with a group of friends or work colleagues, or as a family, it can be a lot of fun to dress up as a group and wear costumes that all fit the same theme. But coming up with the perfect idea for your costumes can be tricky. Think about the interests and personalities of your group. Do you want something clever, original or just plain funny? Or do you just want something cheap and easy that you can put together at the last minute? Here are some ideas to help you find the best Halloween costumes for your group.
What’s Topical?
A good place to find ideas is to look at what stories have been in the media recently. For example, you could go as a sports team, a pop group or politicians.
Historical Events
If nothing from recent times inspires you, try looking back at big events from history or popular culture to find ideas, such as the Six Wives of Henry VIII. You could also pick a time period, such as Roman, Medieval, the 20s or the 60s and all dress in the fashion of that era.
Movies, TV & Books
Another idea is to consider going as famous ficitional characters from literature, TV or film. Remember you want to have costumes that other party guests will recognise, so it’s best not to choose characters from an obscure book or movie that no one else has heard of. Popular ideas include Harry Potter characters – this is a good one because there is no set group size, there are the main 3 characters of Harry, Hermione & Ron, but you can add others depending on the numbers in your group, such as Dumbledore, Snape, Sirius Black etc. Alice in Wonderland, Narnia and The Lord of the Rings are other good themes for groups of all ages, adults as well as kids.
Themes
Perhaps the easiest option is to decide on a theme to tie your group’s costumes together. There’s a lot of scope to be creative here. Possible ideas include animals (ie. all go dressed as bears), superheroes, a color (ie. all go wearing red), food items (ie. all go as types of fruit or vegetable).
Uniforms
Other easy ideas are to dress as a group wearing the same uniforms, such as gladiators, soldiers, sailors, nuns, monks, nurses or firefighters.
Phrases & Puns
You may be able to come up with some really clever, original ideas if you think outside the box and put in some extra effort. Costumes based on words or phrases can be a lot of fun and will impress other guests. Examples include the Seven Deadly Sins, the Ten Commandments or the Four Seasons.
Numbers
If you know how many people are going to be in your group, try to think of well-known groups of things that match your group size. For instance, the Seven Dwarves (add Snow White if there’s 8 of you), a Dozen Eggs, a Six Pack of Beer or the Nine Planets.
